False Advertising
False advertising can involve statements that are either false, or mislead because they do not mention important facts or misrepresent a fact. For example, claiming a product contains 100% ginger powder when it only contains 50%.
Because false advertising can harm both consumers and competing businesses, false advertising laws have been passed to allow for lawsuits to put an end to a misleading business practice and to reimburse those who were harmed by one.
Brown Bear Law, APC fights false and misleading advertising on the behalf of consumers and small businesses.
Companies may face criminal or civil penalties for false advertising. In California, false advertising laws only let a government agency sue for civil penalties. However, consumers can sue for their own damages including the purchase price of the product. Although, it may be a small amount, if an ad was misleading it may result in thousands of other consumers who were harmed just like you.
